Chapter 111

"I've never lost anyone close to me." Penny said as we turned the corner towards the cafeteria.
"Me neither." I said. "Just my grandpa, but I was really young and don't really remember it."
"He's gonna be okay, isn't he?" She asked.
I smiled and shrugged. "We can only hope." I said.
She just smiled. We walked to the cafeteria and got some chips and a couple sodas. We took a long route back to the waiting room so we could have a little break. Penny sat down next to Smurf and handed him a soda. She opened a bag of chips. She offered him some, but he just shook his head as he opened his soda.
"He's stable and responding, but not awake." Spence said taking a bag of chips from me. "Thanks." He kissed me on the cheek.
We all sat there for over an hour not really saying much. We all shuffled through a few magazines and Penny fell asleep in her chair. Finally, a nurse walked up to us. "We're still not sure what to expect." She said. "But so far so good."
"Thank you." Spence said standing up. He shook her hand and she smiled.
"If you'd like to go home and get some rest, we'll call you if anything changes." She said.
"Probably a good idea." Spence said. Smurf woke up Penny and we all went back to their house. Penny layed down to take a nap. I filled a pot with water and turned on the stove. I searched the freezer for hot dogs and found some. "Hey." Spence said softly as he walked up to me. He stopped behind me and put his arms around me. He rested his head on my back.
"Making hot dogs?" He asked.
"Yup."
"Thanks." He said letting go of me. He went to the pantry and got some hot dog buns. He set them down next to me on the counter. When the hot dogs were done, I set up a plate for all of us. I put Penny's in the fridge for later and we all ate in silence. When we were done eating, Spence turned on the TV. South Park was on. It had us all laughing. It put everyone in a much better mood too. They were doing a marathon, so it was one episode after another. Penny walked out about two hours later. Smurf jumped up to heat up her food. She still looked really tired. I heard her take a loud deep breath. I looked up at her and she was holding her stomach. I stood up and ran over to her.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I got a shooting pain through my stomach." She said. She leaned forward holding her stomach. "Ow!" She said starting to cry.
"Oh my god." I said starting to freak out.
"What?" Smurf asked.
"We have to take her to the hospital." I said. "Just to make sure everything is okay."
Spence came running over to us and we rushed to the emergency room again.
