Chapter 113

Sarah said...

"Thanks." Penny said as I tucked her into Smurf's bed.
"You're welcome." I said smiling. "Get some rest."
I went out to the kitchen and started cleaning. I had no idea what to do with myself. I had so much shit running through my head. I cleaned the kitchen for two hours and it was spotless. You could no longer tell that three lazy men lived there. I giggled. I grabbed a frozen pizza out of the fridge and preheated the oven. I sat down at the table and just stared at the light until it turned off letting me know the teperature was high enough to put the pizza in. When it finally turned off, I put the pizza in the oven. My phone started ringing, so I ran to my purse to answer it.
"Spence?" I said out of breath.
"No. It'z Oz."
I sighed.
"I was wondering if we could meet up for dinner." He said.
I started to think about how short life can be and how close Oz and I were at one time. I didn't want him to be fazed out of my life. I knew that. I just had trouble forgiving him.
"Oz I miss you." I said. "I really do." I started to cry.
"And I miss you." He said. "So much."
"Spence's Dad just went in for emergency heart surgery." I said sniffing.
"Oh shit. Is there anything I can do?" He asked.
"I don't know." I said plopping back onto the couch.
"Anything." He said.
"I hate death." I sobbed.
"Do you want me to come over? I can help." He said. "Even if you just need a hug."
I started telling him all about Penny too. He insisted on coming over, so I gave him directions. He arrived soon after the pizza was done. I woke Penny up and turned on the TV for her. I gave her a plate of pizza and a glass of water. I helped her sit up comfortably, then went for a walk with Oz. We didn't say much to eachother for a while.
"I'm sorry about everything." He said.
"I know." I said taking his hand.
"Can you finally accept my apology?" He asked.
I nodded and he squeezed my hand with a smile on his face.
"Life is so hard sometimes." I said.
"It is for all of us." He said.
"I know." I said. "I'm sorry. I'm not trying to get sympathy or anything."
"It's okay." He said.
I smiled.
"Well, I guess my work here is done." He said.
"What?"
"You're smiling. That was my goal." He said.
"Yeah, well I'm letting you leave just yet." I said.
"I'm here as long as you need me." He said smiling.
I smiled back. He let go of my hand and put his arm around me as we continued to walk. I watched the dogs running around as we passed the dog park.
