Chapter Twenty-Five

I giggled as I layed there in Oz's bed staring at the ceiling. He was asleep. I got up and called Carmen as I put my robe on and sat down on the balcony. I told her all about everything going on with Oz. She was surprised. She was being very quiet too, so it made me wonder if she was jelous. I always felt a little weird being with someone that I knew one of my friends had a thing for, even if it was just a small crush.
"You okay?" I asked her.
"Yeah." She said. "You're so lucky though."
"Carmen, I fell for a guy after knowing him for like a day and got rejected. That is not lucky." I said.
"Yeah, but you know deep down that Oz is much more amazing." She said.
"Maybe."
"He is. How could you not see it?" She said.
"I do see it." I told her.
"He would do anything for anyone, Lola." She said. She started to go off about what a great guy he was. I didn't even notice or realize half the things she was telling me. It made me feel bad. Like I didn't deserve him. "I'm gonna let you go now." I said.
"Why?" She asked.
"Because." I said and hung up. It was as if she was trying to make me feel bad. Then I remembered she was drunk when she told me she was okay with me being with Oz.
"Damnit." I said to myself. I called Rachel to see if she wanted to get together, but she was going to the drive in with her family. I called a few other people and nobody was around. I sighed as I dialed my sister Carla's number.
"Lola." She said answering her phone.
"I have a problem." I said.
"What is it?" She asked.
She always sounded very enthusiastic and it would start to get on my nerves very quickly.
"I slept with Oz." I said. "He's great, but my friend Carmen had a crush on him and I think she still does. . ."
"Apologize to her." She said.
"I did. It's not that easy." I said.
"Uh, is it Christmas?" She asked in a snotty tone.
"What?" I asked.
"Not you." She said. "Chloe, those curtians are hidious!"
I sat there for at least a minute while she complained to some girl Chloe about picking the wrong curtians for their dorm room.
"Okay, Lola." She said.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Tell her she lost her chance." She said.
"No, that's rude." I said.
"Did she lose her chance?" She asked.
"I don't think she had one." I said.
"Then tell her that. I gotta go. My dormmate bought the most hidious looking curtains for our room. They do not match our carpet." She said. "Chloe, take them down!"
"Whoa, chill out there, doggie." I said.
"Never call me doggie again. Good luck. Love ya." She said and hung up.
"Well, that was no help." I said setting down my phone.
"Hey you." I heard Oz say. I looked up and he smiled at me. I smiled back.
"I think we have a problem." I said.
"What?" He asked.
"I think Carmen still likes you." I said.
"Oh." He said. "Does that mean this is a secret?"
I giggled. "I could never keep a secret like that from a close friend."
He sat down on the floor across from me. "Okay." He said.
"I feel bad." I said. "I mean, I knew she liked you."
"But she was telling us to-" He started to say. "She was drunk. . ." He said.
"Yeah." I smiled.
He sighed.
"I don't know what to do really." I said.
"I don't know either, but you're not going to end this because of your friend." He said. He got up and went to the kitchen.
I layed back on the floor and closed my eyes. "Damnit." I whispered again to myself.
