Chapter Eighty-Nine

Sarah said...

"What? Are you okay?" He said. "I've been so selfish lately. I'll get on the next flight back."
I was crying so hard by then.
"I feel horrible. Will you please stay with me when I get back?" He said.
"Yeah." I sobbed. "Why didn't I think of seeing if she was okay?"
"Lola, don't blame yourself for any of this." He said.
"But maybe I could have saved her." I said.
"Get some rest, okay?" He said. "I'll pick you up from Warren's tonight when I get in."
"It'll be late." I said.
"I don't care." He said. "I'll call you when I'm on my way. It might be early in the morning."
"Okay."
"Get some rest. Love you." He said.
"Love you too." I said.
He hung up. I set my phone down and put the covers over my head. I took a few deep breaths. I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep. I heard another report about the apartments. I jumped up and quickly turned off the TV. I layed back down and ended up falling asleep after a little while. I woke up later to my cell phone ringing. I reached over and grabbed it. "Hello?" I mumbled half asleep.
"Terrance is going to drop me off. So, don't worry about picking me up." He said.
"Okay." I yawned and sat up.
"See you in like ten minutes." He said.
"Okay, bye." I said and hung up.
I turned the TV on to the cartoon network hoping it would chear me up. It wasn't working. I walked over to Warren's book shelf. I noticed an old copy of The Catcher and the Rye. I picked it up. I remembered reading it in school years before. I decided to read it again. I layed back on the couch and started to read it.

"I'm here!" I heard Warren say.
I opened my eyes. "I keep falling asleep." I said rubbing my eyes and letting out a big yawn.
"That's good." He said smiling. He slipped off his Vans and sat down next to me. "Catcher." He said looking at the book laying next to me.
I nodded.
"Good book." He said. "It's one of my favorites."
"Really?"
"Yeah. One of the few I actually like from school." He said.
"I think I remember liking it. I just don't remember much about it." I said.
"I think you'd like it. You're welcome to borrow it." He said.
"Okay." I said smiling.
I had just finished reading the first Chapter before I fell asleep. I folded the corner of the page I left off at and set the book down on the coffee table.
"So, what's the plan, Stan?" He said.
"Oz wants me to stay with him. He's picking me up tonight. Well, whenever he gets in anyway." I said.
"Is that a good idea?" He asked.
I shrugged. "It should be fine."
We got ready for bed and layed down. "I need a bigger bed." He said.
I giggled. "But then when you had ladies in your bed, you wouldn't have an excuse to lay close to them. . ." I rolled over and layed my head on his chest.
He smiled. "True." He said softly as he kissed the top of my head.
